Installing a Car Lift
While many homeowners want to have a car lift installed in their homes, it’s not typically a task that can be taken on by the average homeowner. Instead, you should seek the assistance of an expert from our team here at Integrity Garage Doors. One main advantage of having a car lift is better utilization of space.
Here are some things to consider when it comes to installing a car lift in your home:
- Get a single-phase power supply with a 16A motor breaker
- Have a concrete base of a minimum depth of 100mm
- If you plan to design it yourself, check the internal height, add the lengths of the car (leaving extra space)
- Have a minimum internal width of approximately 2.5m
These are some of the most important things to consider when it comes to installing a car lift in your garage. The most important thing is to have a concrete slab base in place. If you are planning to install a parking lot, having a garage slab of ‘4-6’ of concrete is best. If you want to install a 4-post lift, then the concrete base needs to be at least 6 inches thick. Every setup has a different base, so it’s best to consult a garage door expert beforehand.
If you want to have the ideal base measurement then you’ll need a C35 concrete with an A142 mesh, as it prevents early shrinkage and cracking. If, during the installation process, you notice the ground is not balanced, padding is great. Padding is a simple solution when compared to digging the ground again and filling the base from the scratch. A new slab should be in place at least 28 days before the installation process.
After the base is made, you should make sure that the rest of the process runs smoothly. While you can install a car lift yourself, it’s highly recommended that you consult professionals, since can ensure it gets done properly and that nobody is injured.
