Is Your Garage Door Balanced?
One of the most important factors of keeping your garage door functioning properly is making sure that it’s properly balanced. Here are some tips on checking your garage door’s balance:
Clear the area near the garage door
You’ll be measuring aspects of your garage door and opening and closing it quite a bit, so you want to make sure that you and the people working on your garage door are safe. Make that your top priority!
Disconnect the garage door opener
Since you will be working on te garage door, you want to make sure that it won’t accidentally be activated while you’re working on the garage door.
Lift the garage door
You should be able to lift the garage door. Often times, you’ll be able to do so with one hand. If you can’t, try to spray Lithium Grease on the hinges, springs, tracks, and rollers. If that still doesn’t work, you should call the pros at Integrity Garage Doors, because at that point, it’s too dangerous to work on on your own.
Lift the garage door two feet
The test to see whether your garage door is balanced requires you to lift your garage door 2 feet off of the ground. After you do so, let go. A balanced garage door should be able to hold its weight. If it’s unbalanced and the springs undergo too much pressure, the garage door will fall. If it does fall, you should call experts, as it means that your garage door is unbalanced and the springs will likely break soon.
